New Milford native Jack Antonoff got some major recognition with his band Fun. when they won the Grammy for song of the year Sunday, according to a report on NorthJersey.com.
Fun. won the Grammy for their hit song We Are Young, which peaked at number one on the "Billboard Hot 100" list and has been featured on both the popular T.V. show Glee and a Chevy Super Bowl commercial. The band was nominated for a total of six different awards.
Antonoff is current Woodcliff Lake resident who previously lived in New Milford and attended Solomon Schechter and public schools, according to the NorthJersey.com report. He got his start in punk bands playing in spots like the Wayne Firehouse and Teaneck American Legion.
He joined singer Nate Ruess and keyboardist-horn player Andrew Dost in 2008 to form Fun. and they released their debut album in 2009. Their new album, Some Nights, which contains their award-winning song, was released last year and was their first on a major label, Fueled By Raman/Warner Music.
Fun. has been using their fame to bring attention to causes. Together with Antonoff's sister, Rachel, they started The Ally Coalition (TAC), a group "with the purpose of inspiring people, in particular their peers in the music, fashion and entertainment industry, to take action for LGBTQ equality."
The band held a post-Grammy celebration which was also a fundraiser for TAC, according to the report on NorthJersey.com.
