Water Main Break Caused River Road Closure, May Impact Friday Morning Traffic

A water main leak, that caused icing, closed River Road for most of Thursday. Police hope work is done and the road can be reopened by Friday morning.

A water main leak on River Road, just south of Madison Avenue, was noticed earlier this week. Due to the cold weather, water leaking across River Road caused icing almost immediately.

Representatives from United Water found the source of the leak Thursday morning and began work to repair it. A small section of River Road was closed early Thursday morning, sometime between 7 and 9 a.m., and it was still closed as of 8 p.m. Thursday evening.

"We thought it might be done by now, but they're still working on it" said New Milford Police Chief Frank Papapietro. "We're hoping to have the road back open before school [Friday morning] but that's no sure thing right now."
