Late Auxiliary Police Chief Honored With Portrait

Ask anyone who knew Andy Boele what he was like and they will tell you three things. One, he loved to laugh. Two, he was a man who never tired of giving so much of himself to the town. And three, he was an avid fisherman.

Boele, who passed away earlier this year, had been a member of New Milford's Auxiliary Police since 1983, rising to the rank of Chief. He was also a member of the Ambulance Corps. 

"Andy had an infectious laugh," Police Chief Frank Papapietro recalls with a smile. 

"Everytime I saw him, he was laughing," Papapietro said. "I really can't say enough good things about him. He was always willing to help whenever we needed assistance."

At Wednesday's meeting of the Mayor and Council, water color artist Philip Smallwood presented a memorial portrait of Boele to the town. Smallwood is also the artist who painted the portrait of Bill Klinger that now hangs in the council chambers of borough hall. Boele's portrait will also hang in , in a location yet to be determined.

Linda Boele, Andy's wife, was presented with a plaque in honor of her husband's dedicaiton of service to the town of New Milford. Attending the ceremony were the members of .
