Flood Watch Issued for New Milford Saturday

Be ready for possible heavy rain and flooding Saturday through early Sunday.

As a result of heavy rains expected Saturday, the National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch on Friday afternoon for most of Bergen County.

The Flood Watch is in effect from 11 a.m. Saturday morning through 6 a.m. Sunday. The heaviest rainfall is expected fall during the afternoon and evening on Saturday. Higher temperatures will cause most remaining snow or ice to melt, which will add to the flooding possibilities.

“Rainfall amounts from 1.5 – inches, with locally higher amounts of up to 2.5 inches, are likely to cause significant low lying and poor drainage flooding during the watch period,” reports the National Weather Service.

The NWS recommends that folks who live in flood-prone areas should monitor the forecast, be ready for flood warnings and be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

If you spot any flooded roads, properties or structures snap a picture email rob.heinemann@patch.com with details.

It's clear by the outline in the snow on my property that the river breached it banks at some point overnight on Columbia Street, means either the Oradell Reservoir is filled to capacity and overflowing, a storm surge raising the sea levels everywhere and/or a combination of rain & snow melting simultaneously causing excessive runoff. Either way, with more precipitation in the forecast, it would be wise to bring vehicles to higher ground tonight since we all know United Water cares not.
