Monday Storm Causes Issues Around Bergen

A house on Kinderkamack Road in Emerson sustained significant damage but could have been flattened if a falling tree tipped just a few feet in another direction.

A brief but powerful storm rolled through Bergen County Wednesday afternoon. Branches and small tree limbs lined many New Milford streets but one family in Emerson is stuck dealing with much more than small branches.

“This tree was here when we moved into the house when I was 6 years old and I’m 50 now,” said Jim Agulara whose parents live at 314 Kinderkamack Rd. in Emerson.

The tree stood at the base of the Agulara’s driveway and left a huge hole where the roots were. A tenant who lives in the basement of the damaged home at 318 Kinderkamack Rd. said the family who lives there has several small children. No one was injured according to Emerson police.

A tree also fell onto a house on Paramus Road. Paramus Police, Fire Department and  DPW vehicles all responded to the scene. According to Paramus Police, several calls came in on Wednesday to report fallen trees and branches. Several cars and homes suffered damage but no injuries were reported police said.

If you see any damage or downed trees around town, snap a few photos and send them to Rob.Heinemann@Patch.com.
