Estimated 400,000 people expected in region; team practices to be held in Florham Park and Media Day in Newark
The 2014 Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium is expected to have a $550 million economic impact on New Jersey and New York, with an estimated 400,000 people in the region, according to a report on dailyrecord.com. Businesses should start preparing for the flood of visitors now, according to speakers at The Big Game Huddle, an informational and networking event held Wednesday at Raritan Valley Country Club. “Start the celebration now,” said Wayne Hasenbalg, president and chief executive officer of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. “You don’t have to wait until the week before the game," he told the dailyrecord.com. That impact will be felt in North and Central Jersey, as one of the competing teams will practice at the Atlantic …

A staple on Kinderkamack for two decades, Hubcap Joe's is a throwback storefront with the magic touch.
Come on. How many times have you driven past Hubcap Joe's on Kinderkamack road and thought, "I'd love to stop in there." Not because you needed a hubcap, but because on a road punctuated by nail salons, Hubcap Joe's has a unique presence. And a unique story to go along with it. Joe DeMarco did not find hubcaps, hubcaps found him. Literally. As a young boy visiting his aunt in the Bronx, a hubcap from a Pontiac fell off and rolled right up to him as they made their way towards the El to go shopping. "The guy in the Pontiac backed-up to look for it, but didn't get out of his car to pick it up and just drove away," Joe said. DeMarco asked his aunt if he could keep the hubcap, but she told him that they needed to shop first and if it was there…

The former Pascack Valley Hospital closed in 2007.
HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley is set to open June 1, exactly 54 years after the Pascack Valley Hospital first opened in Westwood on June 1, 1959. While the new hospital will occupy the same space as the former, work has been underway over the past year to renovate the building and update it to improve the experience of patients, according to hospital CEO Chad Melton. More than $147 million has been spent on the renovations and new equipment, hospital officials said. The renovations are now nearly complete. "It was once a great facility and it will be again," Melton said. Hackensack University Medical Center President and CEO Robert Garrett called the opening a "historic event," noting that this is the first license New Jersey has granted…

A contemptuous employee of Retro Fitness in Fair Lawn will be featured prominently on Friday's episode of the CBS television show, "Undercover Boss."
Even the zero enrollment fee and two months free that Retro Fitness in Fair Lawn is currently offering new members might be a tough sell after prospective customers watch Friday night's episode of "Undercover Boss." The CBS reality television series that sends disguised senior executives undercover as entry-level workers in their own companies visited the Fair Lawn Retro location with CEO Eric Casaburi last month for an episode about the fitness center franchise. Casaburi, who dressed in a shaggy brown wig and dyed beard while posing as new hire Barry Goshe, was less than thrilled with Fair Lawn Retro Front Desk Associate Jacqueline Colucci, daughter of Councilman Dominic Colucci, whom the show describes as "the worst employee he's ever …
If you prefer diesel-powered cars, this is the 5 Cars for you.
"When you grow up you'll play with diesel instead of gas!" That's a phrase I have seen tossed around a lot on online car discussion boards. It appears those who drive diesel-fueled vehicles are sold on the concept. Going diesel has pros and cons for drivers: In the negative column, diesel fuel is more expensive than conventional gasoline. On the whole, it has less horsepower, meaning that diesel cars aren't quite as speedy in the top end. Cars that use diesel fuel often are noisier than those running regular petrol, though that is improving as modern diesel engines are becoming more refined and quiet. And the fourth con is all about logistics: Diesel simply isn't as available as regular gas. But there are advantages to diesel fuel: A …

If Uncle Sam gave you a sweet refund, here are five ways to spend it on a great new ride.
If you're like many people, you've done your duty by the tax man and have a refund check sitting in your hands. If you're the average refund recipient, you have just under $3,000 to play with, according to Bargaineering.com. And of course, being a good American, you plan to use the cash to boost the local economy, right? Well, being that this is a column concerning cars, what do you think we'd suggest you do with that windfall? This week's 5 Cars suggests grabbing a muscle car. What's that? According to Merriam-Webster, it's one of "a group of American-made two-door sports coupes with powerful engines designed for high-performance driving." We're talking a huge, honkin' V6 or V8 engine, rear-wheel drive, something you'd imagine Fonzie …

Further states that by the governing bodies lack of action, the application meets all criteria for approval
After years of the borough providing documentation showing that the United Water property would be best utilized for affordable housing units, the project planner for the proposed development of the 13-acre United Water property has stated that by New Milford's inaction, the mixed-use project is inherently beneficial to the town. Peter Steck concluded his testimony during Tuesday evening's Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting where he placed the onus of the Mayor and Council's decision to not rezone the property the impetus for the need of a D variance. "The governing body could have zoned this site to hold all of the [affordable housing] units, but they did not do that," Steck testified. "We deserve merit approval of this application …
