Thank You!
Last evening’s “SOD Night Out” was so wonderful that I wanted to post a thanks to everyone.
Terry Limaxes, party organizer extraordinaire. An amazing woman.
Lorraine for the awesome cookies; Fran for having us in her home – they did a whole lot more than this, but these were the ways they touched me.
The caterer, Kim Hendrickson, who provided the scrumptious yummies. I’m a lot like Cher’s character Mrs. Flax from Mermaids, I can live on hors d’oeuvres forever. That crispy phyllo meat pastry, and the shrimp one were the best!
New Milford businesses were exceptionally generous and supportive. Oradell was also lavish in providing flowers and raffle items to support our cause.
The music was perfect, attendance was high. The best for me though was all the lovely people who were there. I am posting pictures. All the good ones were taken by Susan Meyer and uploaded to me. All the bad ones, I took with my camera (if you want to call it that!). I wish they could communicate the spirit and feeling of the night.
Lots of cool conversations and met some really nice people (James, Rose, Randie, Holly, Naomi, Todd and his wife, Uli’s wife who had me laughing, Gayle and her husband). It was a joy. I have a rule of thumb that I live by -- happiness that lingers vs. happiness that runs through my fingers. Last night’s get-together was an experience that I’m still feeling. To steal someone else’s words that came to me in an email this morning: “People united in friendship, getting to know each other, a true sense of community permeated the evening.” I couldn’t say it better.
And finally, the members of SOD who are the fabric of the movement, ever-present with their love and wisdom and level of caring: Lori Barton, Ulises Cabrera, John DeSantis, Rosemary Fuhrman, Michael Gadaleta, Anna Leone, Miriam Pickett and John Rutledge. To purloin another phrase from another email I got this a.m.: I'm proud to know you as my friends as we look to a greener brighter future for New Milford.

Thank YOU, Michelle! You were an awesome donation procurer! Those of us who attended had a FANTASTIC time. We got to mingle with old friends and meet new friends. Many people bought tickets at the door and joined with us to tell us they agree with our vision to preserve open space at the United Water property. The food was terrific, the music was perfect, the ambience was beautiful, and the prizes were great. And SOD made money to fund our fight going forward. You couldn't have asked for a more perfect event!!

Michelle is the donation diva! And let's not forget those people who came early and helped set up. Roy and Joette, their son and his friends. And James. And Jon who worked hard all evening. Betty was in charge of the silent auction. Thank you everyone for all your hard work. We are united now not just in purpose but in friendship as well.

Thanks Michelle!
What a great event, with great friends, and for a great cause. The only hiccup was James living with Ruby’s coat. Ruby went home cold that night and James wore a women’s coat for a day and unaware he was cross dressing (we'll blame that on the Malbec wine I was pushing). Lots of laughs all night and there was a wonderful sense of community in the air that’s lingering in all of us today. We’ll need a bigger venue for the next one.

So what exactly does "keep New Milford green" mean? I would venture to say your concept of green and my concept of green are worlds apart. This can be misleading and should be clarified. To me being green means, for one thing, conserving resources yet in the past the concept of saving water was shunned by this group in order to thumb your noses at United Water. That is not being green. I believe the efforts of SOD to be genuinely in the best interest of the people of New Milford but please don't use catch phrases that you don't truely belive in just to gain support. If I am wrong, I appologise.

Jeffrey, I made some comments about United Water that you are referring to and it was out of frustration with them and the DEP. They were personal comments and they had nothing to do with SOD. If you can't see our efforts as being green, please attend one of our meetings. You'd be surprised to find out we've uncovered endangered species that will be impacted by this development and it triggered NM Environmental Commission to request the developers to take this into consideration and it might stop this development if goes to court. Our findings have reversed the Shade Tree Commision decision and they've issued a letter stating that Hekeminian can not cut down almost 300 trees on the UW property. Our environmental contacts are ready to go if the current UW deal falls apart to keep open space by the high school, etc, etc... There is no question that SOD is green.

Hi Jeff. Thx. No doubt green has more than one meaning, and within each meaning a wide range of greenness to commit to. Our green -- though it has an inherent aspect of sustainability in the environmental dimension -- is simply Green as in Grass as in SOD. And even the color green since grass and SOD are green.
I don’t recall promoting excess water usage to thumb my nose at UW. More likely it was a facetious suggestion to increase water usage community-wide to lower the reservoirs in order to prevent flooding -- frustrated venting, not a true initiative. Can you link me to it please?

Don't get me wrong, I think SOD is on the right track to help improve the quality of life here in New Milford.
