Only last night in Middletown, a lady with her baby was shopping in Bed, Bath & Beyond and suffered the trauma of having a man walk up to her, then continually stab her again and again. She is in critcal condition, but Thank God the baby is fine. It was reported that the man had been previously arrested for putting a cat on fire. I believe the man was mentally ill as were the shooters in the recent tragedies. I believe no sane person could have done what any of them did.
I bring this up ever so regretfully and facetiously to ask - will society ban all knives now?
I myself was stabbed years ago by a stranger while at a volunteer public service job and in later years had a machete at my throat while on vacation in St.Thomas V.I. I see no need to eradicate either tool.
The weapons didn't attack me - the perpetrators did.
I believe in the second amendment, all it stands for and protects. Having said that, large clips and assault weapons are (in my book anyway) unnecessary. But, as the aclu jumps on ANY possible infringement of civil rights, I believe the NRA has the absolute right and obligation to fight any attack on the second amendment.
In our society with immediate coverage, crimes upon the above lady are blasted out and fear of violence spreads like wildfire. With very good reason obviously!
But to concentrate so much attention and punishment on legal firearm owners is just not right.
