Winter Storm May Bring Minor Tidal Flooding

Bergen County Office of Emergency Management reports winter storm expected to bring rain, snow, high winds and minor tidal flooding.

 

The Bergen County Office of Emergency Management (BCOEM) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday until 6 p.m. Thursday, Police Chief Frank Papapietro said.

The current forecast calls for rain to begin after 12 p.m. Wednesday before turning to all snow by evening. The snow is expected to continue throughout Thursday, mix with rain in the afternoon and transition back to snow by Thursday evening.

BCOEM is reporting that this system will bring snow into Thursday and Friday morning’s commute before departing early Friday afternoon. Total snowfall accumulations for Bergen are expected to be in the 3-6 inch range.

According to officials, this will be a heavy wet snowfall with high winds. Winds are expected to be in the 18-22 mph range Wednesday evening with gusts near 33 mph. Strong winds are expected to continue into Thursday with gusts up to 35 mph.       

Minor tidal flooding is possible. The high tide data for the Hackensack River at New Milford for the period of the expected storm is:

  • Wed:  4:51 p.m.
  • Thurs: 5:23 a.m./6:01 p.m.
  • Fri: 6:29 a.m.
