Walk or Buy Crafts to Support Animals of RBARI Shelter
Shop the craft sale at Copper Tree Mall on Friday and Saturday or take part in the annual Mutts Marathon at Bergen Community College to benefit the animals of the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge.
Love animals? This weekend there are plenty of fun opportunities to take part in that will directly benefit the animals of the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc., a no-kill animal shelter based in Oakland.
On Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14 and 15, RBARI will host a gift and craft sale at the Copper Tree Mall in Oakland. All proceeds will directly benefit the animals at the shelter. The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 9 pm. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
On Sunday dog lovers from all over the county can bring their four-legged friends to Bergen Community College in Paramus to take part in the eighth annual Mutts Marathon, a benefit for RBARI.
The annual walk-a-thon event is one of three major fundraisers, RBARI conducts each year, says, Terry Blake, president of the board.
On Sunday, Sept. 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. supporters can sign up to take part in the walk or sponsor a walker. Dogs are welcome to take part as well. Owners should take note their dogs must have a current rabies certificate, be on a 6-foot leash, non-aggressive and not be in heat.
Dog lovers will also want to take part in the dog contests where their pet may have a chance at being named ‘best kisser” or “best tail.” Categories include silliest trick, best costume and dog/owner look-a-like contest.
Blake says another featured event is the RBARI alumni dogs on parade. There will also be BBQ by Amarillo Grilling, agility and training demonstrations and tons of vendors and fun things for the kids like face painting, clowns and DJ Maria Milito of radio’s Q104.3 will also be on hand.
It’s also an opportunity to meet adoptable dogs from rescue organizations.
Admission to attend is free but there is a $25 minimum donation for walkers. Those who raise $100 and more will receive a T-shirt, said Blake.
