Sussex County Woman Hurt in Colorado Shooting

23-year-old Andover resident was struck in the leg with shrapnel, released from surgery and is doing OK, according to her sister.

 

A 23-year-old Sussex County woman was among the 70 injured when a gunman opened fire and killed 12 early Friday morning at a movie theater screening of the new Batman movie in Aurora, Colo.

Jacci Fry, of Andover, was hit in the leg with shrapnel and rushed to the hospital, according to her sister, Jamie. Jamie Fry said her sister was released from surgery Friday afternoon.

"She's OK," Jamie Fry said. "She's definitely OK."

Jamie Fry said their parents left for Colorado Friday afternoon. Jacci Fry was also trampled as audience members fled from the gunfire during the premiere of "Dark Knight Rises," according to Fry's friend, Justin Wentzel.

"She's been cracking jokes, keeping the hospital staff laughing," Jamie Fry said of her sister.

A 2007 Lenape Valley Regional High School graduate, Jacci Fry attended Dover Business College and moved to Colorado a few months ago, Jamie Fry said.

"She is a firecracker," Jamie Fry said. "She is really tough. She never takes anybody's guff."

Friends wished Fry well on Facebook Friday afternoon.

"prayers n thoughts go out to jacci fry who was in the colorado shootin lastnight :( hang in there girl ♥" Virginia Fortenbacker said in a Facebook post.

"Thoughts and prayers go out to Jacci Fry and her family." Charlie Kirkland said on Facebook.

Said Lyndsay LaConti on Facebook: "So glad that your out of surgery and doing well Jacci ♥ everyone please keep my friend and the others that were hurt and killed last night in your thoughts."

The alleged gunman, James E. Holmes, 24, of Aurora, Colo., also left his apartment rigged with traps, police said. Holmes surrendered without resistance, according to a CNN report.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jacci and all the others who were injured by this madman. So many lives affected by this guy. Plus to rig his house, police should have shot the SOB.
