Update: Welcome to New Milford Patch
Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

Reminder: Fire Company 2 Needs Your Help

For 97 years, New Milford Volunteer Firefighters have been there for you when you have needed them--now they need you.

What would you do if your house was on fire, but when you phoned for the fire department's help, your call went unanswered? Company 2 has put out a call for help to residents in its annual fund drive appeal, but only 7 percent of their calls have been returned. Out of 6680 letters that were sent to residents, only 467 have been returned.

Although a portion of your tax dollars goes to fund New Milford's all-volunteer fire department, the money collected from their annual appeal is put toward the operation of the fire company--drills, additional equipment, training programs, feeding the company when their services are required for extended periods of time during emergencies such as Hurricane Irene or the October snowstorm, events such as New Milford Night Out, the annual children's Christmas party and donations to "Toys for Tots."

To make it even easier to donate, Company 2 has arranged for residents to make donations through Paypal. Click here if you would like to donate to Company 2 through Paypal

So, as you receive reminders in the mail about donating to the annual Company 2 fund drive remember this: for 97 years, these volunteers have needed no reminders to rush to your house when you are in need of their service.

How many of us would run INTO a burning house? Or go into a raging flood? Help support these extremely important volunteers with any size donation you can make.

Slight correction to the above-reported figures. The total number of letters sent was 6680, not 1680. Unfortunately the percentage returned changes too - down to 7%. Thank you to the Patch for running this story and thanks to Councilman Colucci for commenting as he has above. We would be remiss without thanking our fellow-residents who have responded as well! For those who have yet to contribute we look forward to receiving any amount to help us far-exceed the above return rate.

Have a great Memorial Day, and thanks as always to our veterans for allowing us to comment in the media as we do without ever thinking twice. God Bless America!

Thank you Angelo--I've made the correction above. Coming from a family of firefighters I can say that the men and women who volunteer their time to the fire department personify dedication.

Had trouble with the PayPal link and I couldn't view the PDF (Apple products come with limitations) can someone post a mailing address for donations?
