Raccoon That Attacked Man on Pine Street Confirmed Rabid

Second Raccoon trapped by New Milford Police aggressive, but not rabid.

Officials have reported that the near his Pine Street home on Friday tested positive for rabies. 

Friday evening, Police Chief Frank Papapietro reported that the resident was bitten in his arm and leg by a raccoon that was acting very aggressive. He also said that shortly after the raccoon bit the man, there was a report of a raccoon acting aggressively towards a child on Pine Street.

Officials also reported that the that  captured on Center Street later Friday evening did not test positive for rabies.

Both raccoons had been turned over to Bergen County Animal Control for rabies testing.

Papapietro advises residents to avoid contact with wild animals and report those with aggressive behavior, or those appearing to be sick and acting abnormal, immediately to NMPD.

"If you see a raccoon, or any animal, that is acting in an aggressive manner, call New Milford Police immediately at 201-261-1400," he said.
