Raccoon Attacks Man on Pine Street

Raccoon attack followed by report of a raccoon acting aggressively towards child on Center Street.

A New Milford man was bitten in his arm and leg earlier this evening by a raccoon that was acting very aggressive, Chief of Police Frank Papapietro said.

Shortly after the raccoon bit the man, there was a report of a raccoon acting aggressively towards a child on Pine Street, Papapietro said.

Papapietro said that they are not sure if it is the same raccoon or another one that went after the child, but Bergen County Animal Control was called in to help locate and capture the animal.

Animal Control is searching the area along with officers from the New Milford Police Department.

Papapietro said, "Residents should stay away from all wild animals."

"If you see a raccoon, or any animal, that is acting in an aggressive manner, call New Milford Police immediately at 201-261-1400," he said.

This is scary. I haven't seen a raccoon in years around here. I guess they are back, especially in my neck of the woods the nothern end of town. I live near Pine St and around the corner from Center.I think they are coming up from the brook.
