PSEG Power Outage Update

Chief Papapietro presses PSEG for updates on those in New MIlford who are still without power.

Chief of Police Frank Papapietro, who also heads New Milford's Office of Emergency Management, continues to press PSEG to restore New Milford's power that was compromised during last week's Hurricane Sandy.

"Although most of the town's power has been restored, there are still pockets in the southern part of town that remain without power," Papapietro said. "Specifically Birchwood," he added.

Wednesday morning, Papapietro once again reached out to PSEG requesting an update on outages and requested an ETA on when power would be restored, stressing the fact that residents in this area were on day 10 without power.

"Also, a nor'easter is headed our way Wednesday evening," Papapietro said. Within the hour, three PSEG trucks were on Birchwood working on the lines.

If you still have no power in your house or business, or if it was restored but has since gone out, please notify Chief Papapietro at fpapapietro@newmilfordboro.com and he will contact PSEG directly.

Of course uprooted sequoia type trees can't be helped, but I just wish we could prune branches which hang directly over power lines. On my block, over the past 10 years or so, I have had a minimum of ten to 15 or so outages. I know some Brookchester residents have also been freezing since the hurricane and my heart goes out to them, but in my particular district, it stinks to pay the taxes I do - look out the back yard and see residents on the northern fringe of the Brookchester with their windows open, the TV on - and we don't even have lights.

and if you want to buy a generator, the back order situation will get you one by St. Patrick's day............maybe.

Celeste, thank you for that heartwarming invite.

I am so very sorry if I had misled you. My lights came on late Friday night. I was trying to bring out the point of being without electric for about 100 hours while watching neighbors flaunt their good fortune. Of course some of our neighbors still don't have electric and my heart does go out to them.

I just can't help thinking - if we pruned the trees with branches overhanging power lines, it would have to cut down on fallen branches.

Thanks again Celeste. Guess I could have done a lot better job in accentuating the time frame.

jimmy

Prayers for our powerless neighbors.

Flaunting? Really? Would you have had the folks lucky enough to have power shut it off and sit in the cold and dark to show solidarity with you? Bet when your power came on you turned on lamps and the TV and turned the heat up. Isn't that flaunting it in the faces of those in NM who are still without power? So self-righteous and petty.

Mr. Drake that was beyond nasty and unnecessary. Plenty of people who had generators and services were kind enough to open their homes to us who didn't. They weren't flaunting they were using what they had just like we all would. They pay taxes for services just like you even if they aren't property taxes. Does your son have the same selfish values as you? I will have watch him closely to see if my vote was a huge mistake.

Dudley do right -Tell you what - YOU sit in my dark, cold house, looking out the back yard at some guy playing a radio, with the window open, as you use a flash light to find what you need, hoping the batteries hold out, while your food rots in the fridge and your family has no way to even get to work IF there is any work and tell me I have no right to get pissed off about "flaunting". turning up the heat and putting on your own house lights is NOT flaunting. There IS a big difference.

James - who the hell is kidding whom? This is not about me at all. For you to criticize me for regretting a neighbor FLAUNTING his electricity while everyone else on my block was freezing is just ridiculous. and bringing my son into it, shows just what a low life you are.

@James,
First, What does them paying taxes have anything to do with it? As you said, they dont even pay property taxes and yet they are given beneficial treatment when it comes to power restoration. So that means that we property owners are paying more to be treated less equally?????????????
Second, Don't bring Mr. Drake's son into this. Not for his sake, but because by saying what you said you are calling the rest of the people who voted for him idiots who voted for someone selfish when I believe he did not do anything to draw criticism from you.

Mr. Drake is the one who mentioned taxes so you will have to ask him what that has to do with anything. The people in Brookchester got preferential treatment? How do you know that? I so happen to know a few seniors who live in Brookchester who waited for power for many days so they weren't on that preferential grid. I believe as parents we are examples and our children learn certain values from our examples. I will extend my apologizes to the Young Mr. Drake however because I also believe the sins of the father should not be visited on the child. I never said anyone was an idiot who voted for the Young Mr. Drake. I just said I will be careful to watch that he has the qualities/values I thought he had when I voted for him.

Look you,

in BOTH of my pieces above - regarding The Brookchester I made it quite clear that my heart went out for the seniors who had no power. I was QUITE explicit that the ones who were flaunting it, annoyed me greatly.

What is this - - Berlin 1942? I give MY OPINION and the next thing you do is take it out on and embarrass my son? As far as I'm concerned you are just someone trying to start a problem where there is none.

and Dudley according to your logic, the whole town should wait until the Mayor becomes aware that EVERYONE has power and then tells everyone - otherwise others will be accused of flaunting THEIR electric being on also.....

Now, now boys.....we are all in the same boat and we are all neighbors who want to be warm. This little feuding should be haulted before it gets out of hand and let's stop and think of lucky we really are. We could be one of the less fortunate people of Jersey who live by the shore and have no house to come home to. So we are inconvenienced for a little while, thats yesterday, today is different and tomorrow will make this a memory. Maybe we will all appreciate things a little better. Bless both of you and your families.

I agree Jerry. Those are my sentiments exactly. To appreciate and be thankful for what we have instead of what we don't have. Blessings to you also.

Karen, my wife's sister lives in Franklin Lakes. They haven't had power since the storm started. and won't get any until Sunday. Her handyman is living in a shelter because his beautiful little mobile HOME was crushed.
