Planning Board Reappoints Board Attorney to Another One-Year Term
After considering three applicants, Board decides to reappoint Board Attorney, Richard Abrahamsen.
At January's reorganization of the Planning Board, the board decided to reissue RFQ's (request for qualification/quotation) for more candidates for the position of Board Attorney because there was only one submission for consideration.
In order to do this, the Board authorized a 60-day extension to Richard Abrahamsen, who was initially appointed to the position of Board Attorney in January 2012. Abrahamsen is a partner in the Englewood Cliffs law firm Sekas & Abrahamsen.
At Tuesday's meeting, Chairman Angelo DeCarlo said that there were three viable candidates: the law firm of Eric Bernstein and Associates from Warren, New Jersey; Zoning Board Attorney Scott Sproviero; and Abrahamsen.
Deciding that they would prefer to go with a practitioner located closer to New Milford, the weight of the Board's consideration fell upon Abrahamsen and Sproviero, who had previously served as the Planning Board's attorney. It was ultimately decided that due to the amount of work involved in the proposed development of the United Water property by Hekemian currently being heard by the Zoning Board, it would be difficult for Sproviero to serve both boards. Therefore, Abrahamsen was unanimously reappointed as the Planning Board's attorney for the period of one-year.
