United Water Property Planner Appointed

Mayor and council appoint planner to replace Burgis at United Water property hearings before zoning board.

The mayor and council appointed Phillips Preiss and Grygiel on Monday as the planner to replace Burgis in Zoning Board hearings on development of the United water property.

Burgis had to recuse itself from the hearings regarding the development of the United Water company by New Milford Redevelopment Associates.

Last week's meeting of the Zoning Board regarding the development of the United Water property was postponed due to a lack of a borough planner.

Zoning Board attorney Scott Sproviero recommended to the board that they not proceed with the hearing until a planner is present "to represent the interests of the board."

According to borough attorney, Mark Madaio, the other firm under consideration, Birdsall Services, had conflicts that would have ultimately caused their recusal.

"Birdsall had many, many projects and much contact with Hekemian and performed engineering work for the water company."

Madaio said that Preiss' cost will either be less than, or equal to, the cost of Burgis.

Slightly off topic, why is it that whenever I look at this sketch (the one included in this article showing a proposed redesign of the UW property) I can never orient myself? The caption "residential complex and bank front Cecchino drive" really doesn't help. Is the large open area on the opposite end of Cecchino a stadium or a pond of sorts? Where's River Road? How about a North marking and/or street labels?
Really silly when you think of it. Such an important drawing leaving so much to question.

Tony, the bank is the building surrounded by a small parking lot in the lower right corner of the picture. It would be opposite the senior center on River Road. The cars parked in front of the residences in the lower left corner of the picture are on Cecchino Drive, which runs from Madison to River along side the high school.

Tony, Please don't feel that this is off topic. I have often questioned this particular rendering myself. Where is the road that runs in back of the High School? Is this the complete UW parcel of land? If it is, in the upper right hand corner in the area showing in white, it doe's look like a pond. This would indicate an area that is next to the Hackensack River itself. Over to the upper left it indicates an area that one would assume to be the HS football field with no indication of where Cecchino Dr is.
This drawing not only needs a North marking but all 4... North, East, South & West and also where River Road is located. It would also help to show where new entrances & exits are to be positisioned. All in all this drawing is very confusing and not in the least showing how the actual buildngs will look....

If you click on the rendering it's labeled with the location--corner of Cecchino and River Road. The bank and housing units are facing Cecchino.

As said, clicking through to the rendering and reading "residential complex and bank front Cecchino drive" didn't really clarify for me. Between Rory and Denise's posts, I was able to sort of figure it out. The road on the far lower-left is Cecchino. The far lower-right is Rory's statement mentioning the Senior Center as being opposite the bank is what helped me really see.
Thanks.

Can't they come up with a better sketch then the one above. It reminds me of the pictures in my old high school history book of the of the American settlements in the early 1600's.

Soooo....The building in the lower right hand corner with the white roof is the Senior Center and the apartment units are facing it and the apartments are also facing Cecchino Dr?? So then mid-way through the picture would be Main Street going west towards the Old Water Works Buildings?? I think I get it....YUCK!!!!
No wonder the houses facing the apartment buildings are for sale...There is a blue house with the for sale sign and another a little further south on River that had a sign, however, the sign is no longer there. Perhaps they changed their mind or for some other reason.......

No, the building in the lower right hand corner with the white roof is the proposed bank. It would be on River Road and across the street from the senior center (which is not in the drawing). The larger building, in the top center and also with a white roof, is the new Shop Rite. Main Street / New Milford Ave. is at the very top of the drawing.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but don't we have enough apartments in new Milford? Why not condos, duplexes, or town homes?

Rory, So if I understand this correctly the new apartment buildings toward the front of the picture would be in the back (west) area of the land parcel? Basically I am looking at the picture backwoods.....The apartments would be kind of north on the road that the HS football field is on. Do I finally have this right? Somebody, please help me!!

Denise, the bottom left corner of the drawing shows two cars on a road that forms a triangle with the corner of the drawing. That is Cecchino Drive, the street that connects Madison Avenue (behind the H.S.) and River Road (front of H.S.) and has been blocked off from thru traffic to provide extra school parking. If you are on Cecchino Dr. and cross River Road heading east, the street name changes to Milford Avenue.

Rory, OK think I got it this time....The apartments are going to face the north side of the High School? Just Ducky...And of course there will have to be new entrances & exits built...Heaven forbid if one of them is on Cecchino Dr, I can see the accidents happening already....
