New Milford's 2012 Topical Storm: United Water Property
The hot topic in New Milford this year was the potential development of the United Water Company property.
It comes as no surprise that the potential development of the United Water property was the hot topic in town this year. With the exception of police matters, this property received the most press in 2012.

- SOD Takes Protest March to Borough Hall: In September, over 100 residents, many with children, some with bullhorns, packed the sidewalk in front of Borough Hall on River Road holding signs asking the Mayor and Council to join them in their fight to keep the United Water property as open space and agree to hold off on rezoning it until the application has run its course through the Zoning Board.
- Hekemian Submits Substantial Changes to United Water Property Site Plan: In November, Hekemian submitted substantial site plan revisions to the proposed development of the 13-acre United Water property posing the question asked by Councilman Austin Ashley's attorney in the matter, "Do the changes constitute a new application?"
- Original Hekemian Offer Back on Table; Grant Calls for Investigation: Mayor Ann Subrizi informed the council during Monday evening's work session that a phone call placed to Peter Hekemian revealed that if the council rezones the United Water property, the original offer he made to the town in April of 2011 is still on the table. Councilwoman Hedy Grant put forth a motion that failed to appoint a special counsel to investigate the failure of the mayor and council to purchase the property or take any further action regarding it.

I took a few days off having lost friends in this matter & gave it a lot of thought & research. Hopefully as a year end wrap up, I ask you - attempt to be a disinterested third party & try re-reading these Articles. Then see who made it political, vicious & personally intimidating:
"Rezoning United Water property", "Oradell plans to fight N. M. development", "Mayor says my party is New Milford" & my own "A morning with the Riverkeeper". My 12/7 Comment herewith surely proves my accusers to be correct in calling me what they did....

Tom, there are no hero's nor villains in this swamp debacle. Just human beings doing what they - in their own mind think is the right thing to do. Take a minute and think about the emotions that have been poured out here recently for all to see and regretfully be mocked. Dreams shattered & then personally abused, well meant volunteers insulted, innocent candidates accused of being opportunistic, families embarrassed, friendships ruined, reputations gone & trust is now a long lost sacrament & for what? Something that more than likely will wind up in court & the buyer, since he perhaps acquiesced to COAH homes only, may very well win the heart of the deciding judge leaving so many neighbors still at each other's throat.
As far as allegations, I am evil, user, liar, politician {that's probably the only juvenile insult I laugh at) & a traitor.

Mr. Drake, I did go back and read where you made reference. I believe you have handled yourself quite well considering the malicious and personal attacks on you and your son. Most significantly, since you are not a member of any board, council nor any special interest group, your opinions seem honest and reasonable.
What is interesting is, the personal attacks on you are from anonymous names and special interest groups.
Obviously some are against you. Please don't let this affect your submissions.
