Municipal Budget Introduction, Continuation of Hekemian Hearing Top This Week in New Milford
Find out what's going on this weekend in New Milford.
The Mayor and Council will be meeting for a work session Monday at 7 p.m. in the upstairs conference room at Borough Hall. The 2013 Municipal Budget will be introduced during the meeting.
On the agenda is the introduction of ordinance #2013:03 to exceed the 2012 municipal budget appropriations limits and to establish a cap bank.
One of the ways local governments can circumvent the 2.5 percent cap on municipal budget increases is to adopt an ordinance to establish a "cap" bank. The passage of the ordinance permits the governing body, in certain situations, to increase its budget in an amount not to exceed 3.5 percent of the preceding year’s appropriations level.
The law establishes that the cap can be exceeded without having to go to the public for a vote if a town needs to meet certain capital expenditures, including debt service, or if there is an increase in pension contributions or health care costs.

The Zoning Board of Adjustment will be meeting Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. On the agenda is the continued hearing of the proposed development of the United Water property by Hekemian. Also on the agenda is the hearing of 391 Madison Ave. and the proposed development of a 14-unit multiple dwelling with parking underneath.

Instead of fighting over a new development, why don't they start making barriers so out homes won't continued to get flooded. Or considered putting a street light on New bridge road next so our children can get to the bus stop without us being afraid of them getting hit by cars that are clearly driving over the speed limit. Talk about priorities being up there ***.

The real estate rebound that is taking place in our country has left out towns like ours. There should not be any suprise when our local govt is looking for ways to go above our tax cap. So sad .
