Man Charged in Robbery, Assault on New Milford Police Officer
Man accused of shoplifting and strong armed robbery assaults New Milford Police officer and flees scene, remaining at-large.
A 22-year old Little Ferry man faces charges he struck a New Milford police officer on River Road Saturday night after fleeing a CVS robbery in Dumont, New Milford Police Chief Frank Papapietro said.
According to Papapietro, Dumont police issued an alert of a shoplifting/strong armed robbery at the CVS on Madison Avenue in Dumont at approximately 9 pm Saturday. Police reported that the man, identified as Richard Scrivani, fled the scene in a black Audi.
The car, matching the description and license plate reported by Dumont Police, was stopped on River Road by New Milford police officer Bryan Mone. Refusing to comply with Mone's order to exit the vehicle, Scrivani was subsequently removed from the vehicle, Papapietro said.
"Scrivani became combative when officer (Richard) Giacobone arrived to assist Mone," Papapietro said. "Scrivani was able to re-enter the vehicle and fled the scene."
Scrivani drove off with his car door open, striking Giacobone's right arm, Papapietro reported. Sgt. Daniel LaMorges pursued Scrivani, but lost him after he terminated the chase due to hazardous road conditions, Papapietro said.
Scrivani is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, eluding and assault by auto. Additional charges are pending from the Dumont Police Department. He is still at-large.
Giacobone was treated and released at Holy Name Medical Center and has returned to full duty, Papapietro reported.
