'Jersey Shore' Canceled By MTV

Final season will begin airing in October

Love or hate its rambunctious cast, the show that made Seaside Heights famous - or, at least, infamous - is going off the air.

MTV announced Thursday afternoon its hit series "Jersey Shore" will end after a recently-taped season airs this fall.

The sixth season of the series, which since 2009 has chronicled the oft-drunken misadventures of eight 20-somethings living in a house on Ocean Terrace in Seaside Heights, will premier Oct. 4 at 10 p.m.

The network will air "Gym, Tan, Look Back" as part of a farewell marathon Sept. 6, and the cast will make an appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards that night.

The network has not given a reason why the series is ending.

In addition to the well-documented antics at local night spots such as Karma, Aztec and The Beachcomber Bar and Grill, three cast members wound up in handcuffs over the last several summers the show has taped in Ocean County.

Cast member Ronnie Ortiz-Magro was accepted into the state's pretrial intervention program after being charged with aggravated assault, and Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Deena Cortese both were arrested and paid fines relating to borough ordinance violations in Seaside for nuisance behavior.

Most recently, Polizzi and fellow cast member Jennifer "J-Woww" Farley have returned to Ocean County to tape episodes of spin-off program "Snooki and J-Woww" in Manchester after pulling out of Morristown and being denied in Toms River and Point Pleasant.

Maybe it was cancelled because the show is retarded. It hasn't been (ever so slightly) entertaining since the first season. Now they all think they're too cool. The Situation is an obvious drug addict, JWoww had some major plastic surgery (not for the better in my opinion), Vinny had a nervous breakdown; I mean cmon, what a bunch of losers. Nobody on the show is attractive or funny. Does anybody really still watch it?

The fact that you ever watched it at all speaks volumes about you. And people who use the word "retarded" in ways other than to describe a mentally retarded person are scumbags.

people who use it to describe mentally DISABLED people are scumbags too ...
the word is by definition descriptive of something not working properly but has become offensive to people whoi suffer ANY disability , as a vulger and generalizing word. Its best to not use it at all ....

Nordrom, yes it does speak volumes about me, it means I gave a new show a chance to entertain me... because I like to be entertained. It might be your 2nd language, but maybe you should learn to read English better, I clearly implied that I no longer watch the show, and haven't in quite some time. And, like Doug said, your use of the word wasn't any more proper than mine.
And why did get so offended by me talking negatively about the show anyway? Get a life.

yea all those dirtbags in the 2 and 3 million dollar shore houses in Mantolookin ..lmao..
Sleazeside is what it is , but its STILL a place for kids if they are young enough to block out the garbage and be mezmerised by the flashing lights, bumper cars, and candy stands on a boadwalk full of games that you want to win "just because" . Even if all you get is a flute made of plastic or a half stuffed frog thats 4 inches tall. Sorry Jazmine , I guess when you went there to try and see the cast of the show and stand outside the house for hours like those other fools, you ran into the dirt element -
try Ocean Beach , Manasquan , or some place NOT filming a reality show if you want to avoid ..well...honestly , the type of people who WATCH REALITY SHOWS !

The worst part of the show embarassing NJ is the fact that the cast is from NY! They have one girl from NJ and every out of state retard thinks that's what NJ is really like! They made money off getting drunk and acting like retards, getting arrested, and into fights when there are unemployed people out there who unfairly lost their jobs and can't make a dime in today's economy. Bad.

ac is in a ghetto area - anything outside the casinos is so poor they wont allow a proper casino anywhere else in a state where gambling is legal. Seems funny huh ?? It's because they need every penny they can muster down there to help the city and area around it and that usually leads to beggers and other types who flock to that boardwalk looking for a quick buck legally or otherwise ..

Every now and then when surfing channels I happened on Jersey Shore so checked it our for a ccouple of minutes. This would be just enough to develop the opinion that the program gives a horrible image of New Jersey, the state that is home to so many greats of the world past and present such as Thomas Edison and Albert Einstein just to name two.

I did not appreciate the comment O'Reilly made in regards to the Italians. First of all they are not all Italian. Also I am a proud American Italian, I have traveled to Italy, The kids don't act like this. Not even the Italians wanted the Jersey shore crew in Italy. The Europeans think it is awful how Americans would even show something like this on TV.

Bravo Venessa. It's amazing how gullible American viewers are - they actually believe reality TV is real, lol. No, the majority of these low life posers are not Italian at all (there is more Irish, Spanish and Polish in their backgrounds than anything else). They are simply underdeveloped and shameless circus monkeys coerced by MTV to "play" a part. This train wreck was deliberately scripted, orchestrated and staged by MTV and they should be sued for defamation. Instead MTV gets richer and richer as they laugh at their dumb luck and the profit potential from the gullible and dumbed-down American audience.

The fact that anyone actually believes these pigs somehow represent Italians just reinforces the danger of ignorance and false stereotypes.

@Billy Mays - No, The Sopranos didn't trash Italians but, it definitely stereotyped Italians from NJ. When the show was popular, every time I would tell someone that I'm an Italian from NJ, close to alot of areas the show was filmed (I live 5-10 minutes from where "Bada Bing" was filmed and about 20 minutes from the Sopranos house, etc.), I would get A TON of questions about seeing the cast, filming, landmarks, am I in the mafia, etc. The show didn't "trash" Italians but, it DID give Italians from NJ in particular a certain facade.
