High School Student Struck by Car, Suffers Head Trauma

NMHS student struck by car, transported to Hackensack University Medical Center with head trauma and possible broken arm.

A sixteen-year old female student from was struck by a car traveling southbound on River Road at the intersection of Cooper Street at approximately 3:40pm Tuesday, Frank Papapietro said.

According to Papapietro, who was at the scene, it is unclear if the student stepped out in front of the car or walked into the side of it as it passed by. 

"It was evident that she suffered significant head trauma and a possible broken arm," Papapietro said.

The injured student was transported by EMS crews to Hackensack University Medical Center.

Her condition was not clear late Tuesday.

The driver, a new Milford resident, appeared uninjured.

"Obviously, the driver is very shaken," Papapietro said.

Aiding the injured student were off-duty members of the New Milford Fire Department and school officials, Papapietro said. 

Papapietro said that the investigation, conducted by police officer Frank Haggerty, will be ongoing.
