Green Knights Playing For The State Championship Saturday

Assistant Football Coach Cottiers asks residents to come out and support the team as they make a play for the title.

Residents of New Milford:

This Saturday, December 8th, 2012, our New Milford Knights Football Team plays for its first State Championship in 26 years. Unlike 2007, when our Knights played at MetLife Stadium, this game will be played at Kean University in Union, NJ this Saturday (12/8) at 1pm. This is a special group of kids. They deserve as much support as possible as they try to bring home a State Championship trophy back to New Milford.

This past Friday we were forced to play our home semifinal game at Dumont High School because of an unplayable field. No one was pleased about this. However, the crowd that came out to that game alleviated all frustrations. It was a magical moment when Dante Tobler ran 89 yards down the sideline for the game sealing win while over one thousand New Milford fans were cheering on the team. Hurricane relief withstanding, it was the greatest display of town unity I have witnessed in my twenty-six years in New Milford. We hope for an even greater turn out from our outstanding fans this Saturday.

This team is a New Milford operation from top to bottom. Our coaching staff is comprised of NM residents with children in the school system, NMHS alumni and former players, and Head Coach Bill Wilde who is a police officer in town and the school’s resource officer. Most importantly: our players are homegrown. They were developed in our exceptional Junior Football program and remained loyal to their town by choosing to play at New Milford. This team has made it this far because of two factors: hard work and character. For that reason alone they deserve to have the maximum amount of fan support as they take the field this Saturday at Kean University.

Bring the family and let’s make these phenomenal student-athletes proud of the town they are representing by making the trip to Kean and cheering them on.

The kids here at the HS are SO excited about this game, and we teachers are SO proud of our students. We hope everyone in our small town grabs something warm to drink and comes out in the beautiful brisk afternoon to enjoy a great game of football.
Go Green! Go KNIGHTS!!
