Grants Writer to Appear Before Mayor and Council and More This Week in Local News
Grants writer, Marlene Casey, on agenda for Monday's Mayor and Council work session.
There will be a work session of the Mayor and Council on Monday at 7 pm in the upstairs conference room of Borough Hall. Marlene Casey of Capital Alternatives, the Borough's grant writer, is on the agenda to speak before the Mayor and Council.
Casey is appearing to answer questions regarding grants that were available at the time that the United Water property was available to the town for purchase.
Mayor Ann Subrizi told Patch in December that at the same time that the United Water property was available for purchase, the town had inquired about securing grants for the $1.6 million Hirschfeld Brook flood mitigation project, but was advised by Casey that the grant money available had a short time frame and was required to be spent as quickly as possible.
Subrizi wanted to clarify the record regarding available grant money when the United Water property was available for purchase. Despite all that has been said by members of SOD at public meetings and on Patch, she said that when the town considered purchasing the property there was no guarantee that grant money was available for the purchase.
SOD has put forth that New Milford's bond writer, Marlene Casey, said that there were grants available for the purchase of the property in early 2011. Although, according to members of SOD, Casey said that the town would have had to finance the property through bonds before any grant money was realized.
In response, Casey told Patch in December that she did not want to make any comment about anything she reportedly said to SOD regarding the United Water property. Her reason being that "not one person" she has spoken to "got it right." Casey said that she will be making her official comment when she appears before the Mayor and Council at their January meeting.
"I'd rather say what I have to say [regarding the United Water property] and say it on the official record at the January meeting [of the Mayor and Council]," Casey said.

Wouldn't it be something if her actual testimony was all about "If's.. Maybe's..Might Possibly been able to..There was a chance..Depending upon..A Leap of fate & necessary taxes should the free money not be there".....ALL - indefinites..? & now 4 ENTIRE TOWN OVERALL PUBLIC INTEREST, decent families have been lied about, distorted, embarrassed & their political careers ruined because they had to evaluate & decide that home values were going DOWN, taxes were going UP & if they did commit to this free ticket to hell ( $1. 8 mill - whatever) the remaining 3,700 home owners and multi unit apartment owners <which in turn would be passed on to renters of course > would bear the brunt of as much as $70.00 additional per month on taxes FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS!
Decisions on COMMITMENTS & possibly condemning hard working families to tax increases because of "possibilities" is what financial leadership is all about. If Annie did intentionally pass on a "might work, but nothing definite" mandate - - in my book, she did the right thing.
and IMO. I think ashley should have left a $50.00 bill outside the senior center. SOD activists did not deserve the treachery.

As one of the hard working taxpayers you mention, I would GLADLY pay an additional $70 per month for the next 10 or even 20 years to have had the opportunity to secure that land and build proper fields and facilities for the High School and the town. It is an investment that would increase the value of my property, rather than a supermarket and an apartment house, which will lower the value. Are the theatrics about a ticket to hell and leaving a $50 bill outside the door necessary? Any person's political career that has been ruined, has been done by their own actions or more importantly, their inactions. For any elected leader (either party) in modern day Bergen County to turn away even the possibility of their town owning “prime” undeveloped land is unconscionable and in this voter’s opinion unforgivable.

I wish they'd move this to the chamber instead. The upstairs doesn't hold so many people.
I keep on reading some people say political careers were ruin because of comments made here and I disagree. Wrong political decisions and going against what voters want ruin political careers - action speaks louder than words.

You got that right, Ulises! Additionally, I too believe that Annie did the right thing.

I still want to know why so little so late from Casey. If she was full of a wealth of information, why sit on it. She lives in this town so why wouldn't she have moved mountains to bring forward this type of available grant monies to do right for our town? She has a SOD sign. I still say shame on her for withholding this important information until are more gratituous time.

According to Ms. Casey, the Mayor didn't want her to repeat her findings to anyone and when Councilman Berner try to put her on the agenda in March 2011, the Board Attorney told her the mayor did not include her on the agenda and she was asked to leave. She now wants to set the record straight.

tony, your warmth and charm enticed me to click on your name and review your Comments.
thrill me they did not - maybe something about a drunk uncle was fun to read and 250 million guns in the country was interesting .
However, reading other's comments in and around yours showed me where it was said at the SOD meeting December 10th that 7.2 Million dollars was definitely available way back when.
Let's just see what she says tonight. Otherwise that Comment is proof of someone being - - - well, you can figure it out.

Jimmy, you changed after the election. I too went back to your history and was entranced by your quasi racist comments about the Korean Church and your insights into why those living in the apartments should not have power before you. The fact of the matter is that the Republican’s screwed the pooch on this one and you can’t accept it.

you criticize my reference to ashley screwing the SOD group and the Korean church. Guess what pussycat? Everything I said is true and it WAS a Korean church going in - not an Asian - a Korean church. Now why don't we take a look at your interaction with soul sisters and latina's in jail as in 9:03 PM January 1st. Just click on his name folks.
and your comment on bestiality says a whole lot more about you - having a tasteless remark so immediately at hand.

I did not change my core priorities. I changed my involvement with SOD because (as I have said at least four times) I did that because of the extreme almost daily lambasting of ONLY Republicans who did what I believe is right for the entire community. Yes Virginia, err Antoinette, the people being accused were the Republicans. Maybe that's why democrat Mr. ashley wears that halo..
For someone who is in as many different Patch area's as you, I would expect some better police work in digging out dirt on me..

Jimmy, it is a church, calling it out as anything other than a church is biased. You made comments about a house of worship wanting to occupy and empty building in our town, my comment that you called out, was on a story in the New Milford Patch, about what a female suspect in the armed robbery and attempted murder of a pizzeria owner had to look forward to in prison. And for your information screw the pooch is a technical term, developed by NASA, I watched Apollo 13 last night and it was used a number of times, it never occurred to me to take it in the literal way that you did; speaks volumes about you.

For the record, a lot of SOD members supported Republican candidates Berner and Rebsch. Personally, once they set forth their campaign, I spoken highly of them here and only spoke the truth about those other Republicans that did not support Howard and Peter's position. Some people here expect others to be praised for doing the opposite of what everyone else wants but that never happens in the real word, unless you're a lackey.

hmmmm, so far:
her words were not completely clear
she could have expressed herself better
she was mortally wounded by the printed words.....
Oh well, I'm sure Ann Piccirillo will fill us in on what happened.
Nothing about the 7.5 mill "just sitting around" yet though from what I understand.

Pat, there are a number of us who have heard what went on, but we're waiting for Ann Piccirillo to tell us what happened officially. She left the meeting early-ish, which is NOT like Ann and to be honest - we're praying that everything at home is OK with her.
The meeting lasted a LONG time, things were reported to the M & C which ashley and grant apparently knew were not correct, but they said nothing, loudmouths were put in their place (ever so discreetly obviously) and Marlene did not report that Mayor Anne belonged in handcuffs. Apparently, it was a non event.
Maybe tonight's zoning meeting will be fun.
