Ex-Girlfriend to be Charged in River Edge Double Homicide
River Edge Police, Prosecutor's Office are investing a double homicide on Millbrook Road after two bodies were found
Editor's Note: For those of you who asked what happened in River Edge today, here it is.
On Wednesday afternoon River Edge Police and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office descended upon the 700 block of Millbrook Road after the discovery of two bodies, a man and woman, inside a home. Officers are currently seeking the 52-year-old male victim's former girlfrield Monica Mogg, 49, in Connecticut where she faces two counts of murder.
"The early investigation indicates that this was not a random act nor was it related to the power outages or hurricane," River Edge Police Chief Thomas Cariddi said.
The murder is believed to have taken place sometime on Oct. 30 and REPD located the victims on Wednesday afternoon. The victims, a 42-year-old woman and 52-year-old man are believed to have been shot and stabbed, although no weapons have been found at this time.
The exact type of firearm and knife will be determined following an examination by the Bergen County Medical Office.
"The two victims were acquainted with one another and it is believed that Mogg knew and had a prior relationship with the male victim," Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said in a press release. "Reports that this homicide was a random act, brought about by the darkness caused by Hurricane Sandy, are unfounded. River Edge residents need not fear that this was a random act."
Mogg is believed to have fled to Connecticut after the two alleged murders. Upon her extradition to New Jersey, additional charges may be lodged against her, according to a press release issued by the Prosecutor's Office. No bail has been set at this time.
The victims names were not released to the public as the families have yet to be notified.
