Black Friday Rush Hits Garden State Plaza
Lines were the longest at Best Buy, H&M and Urban Outfitters at GSP in Paramus.
Despite Blue Laws restrictions that prevented Garden State Plaza from opening before 7 a.m., groggy shoppers gathered at the mall before dawn, most of them waiting for big ticket electronics at Best Buy.
Customers waiting for door-buster deals on flat screen televisions and laptops showed up as early as 4 a.m., bundled in scarves and hats and gripping coffee cups.
Best Buy had the longest lines, followed by H&M and Urban Outfitters, where a manager stood guard and let groups of people in at a time.
The rest of the mall was busy, but lines were managable and moved quickly throughout the morning.

People are crazy and retailers are greedy.

For some folks, it's probably a sport by now.
But I have no respect for any retailer who opened on Thanksgiving Day (so, thank you, PC Richard). I ask such retailers: Do you need it THAT badly?

Why do people put themselves through this? Isn't their time more valuable than this? WTF.

You know, I'm Jewish, and this relentless crush of insane greed makes ME want to put the Christ back in Christmas. When you are standing in line on Thanksgiving Day for a chance at getting a cheap TV that you don't need and your kid doesn't need, when the store only has two or three at that price and is just trying to get you into the store to buy other crap, there's something very, very wrong with that. The comedian Marc Maron has a bit where he goes into a shopping mall dressed as Jesus and walks around saying "No....NO! This is NOT how it's supposed to be, people!" When I hear about people getting shot (as happened in Florida) and about riots in stores over cheap crap made in China, I too feel like dressing up as Jesus and going to the mall. Maybe it will remind people what this holiday is supposed to be about. It's about celebrating the birth of your messiah, people -- not about who has the most electronic gadgets. Sheesh.

Multitudes of Christ-followers share your sentiments. The christendom of culture is always a bad story-teller. Thankfully many on the fringes are telling the story in great ways. I'm thankful for the many acts of chesed I've seen displayed from my Jewish brothers and sisters in humanity. Keep it up.

many of us small local business owners depend on people going out and buying stuff they don't need.

Black Friday: The day Americans trample each other the day after giving thanks for all their blessings. So sad.

GS Plaza Mall is a blight on the area. Thank goodness for the blue law, it should be on Saturday too!
